From AI Application to Data Analysis and Digital Marketing: The Multiverse of Interdisciplinary Foreign Language Studies
The 4th FJCU College of Foreign Languages Cross-College & Cross-Class Showcase: Translation in Practice, Data Analysis, and Media Marketing
Every semester, the FJCU College of Foreign Languages and Literatures hosts a "Cross-Class Showcase" during the End-of-Term Independent Learning Week. The 4th edition, held on June 18, 2024, expanded beyond classes to include multiple colleges. Partners from the iLink Industry-Academia Linkage Project, the XPlorer Competency-Based Project, and the University Mid-Term Project were invited to witness students' interdisciplinary achievements.
Themed "Translation in Practice, Data Analysis, and Media Marketing," the showcase featured five core tracks: "Interdisciplinary Cultural Translation," "Intercultural Communication and Social Practice," "Business Data and Corpus Analysis," "Digital Marketing and Media Technology," and "Media Application and Creative Marketing." Participating students represented the Colleges of Foreign Languages, Management, Communication, Arts, and Social Sciences, offering a glimpse into the "multiverse" of interdisciplinary learning within the humanities and social sciences.
In the Interdisciplinary Cultural Translation track, students demonstrated creativity through AI-assisted works. Projects included a game introducing historic shops in Xinzhuang, a Metaverse guide to Naples, an AI-powered comparative analysis of campus life in Spain and Hong Kong, and AI-driven pronunciation practice. The Grand Prize was awarded to a team of first-year Applied Arts students for their cultural talk magazine, Mantan (漫談). Despite being freshmen, their work was exceptionally professional, emphasizing consistent composition and style while strictly adhering to copyright standards—proving that AI application must be grounded in professional knowledge and skill. In AI-related industries, we are not merely repetitive technicians; instead, we must leverage diverse literacies and the "3Qs" (IQ, EQ, and AQ) to engage in human-machine co-learning, becoming ethically responsible "AI Tamers."

In the "Intercultural Communication and Social Practice" track, students showcased cultures and products from various countries and religions through different communication media. Projects included sharing culinary cultures with French students, marketing Nordic wines and delicacies, and designing guided tours for Xinzhuang and Banqiao. A standout presentation was by seniors from the Department of Religion, who introduced "A Journey through Death"—their graduation exhibition titled Mo Zhan. By framing death as a journey (consisting of "Pre-departure," "En Route," and "Arrival"), this immersive exhibition allowed participants to choose a persona and experience the life philosophies and afterlives of different religions.
The remaining three tracks shared a common focus on Digital Marketing and Data Analysis, which is a core pillar of the iLink Industry-Academia Linkage Project at the College of Foreign Languages. In these sessions, students demonstrated professional skills in data analysis, media production, creative marketing, and project management. Data analysis topics ranged from food safety and the causal factors of traffic issues to market trends in film cameras, fine dining, and fast fashion. In terms of project execution, the baking team "Sweet But Not Cloying" expressed solidarity with the Ukrainian people through their desserts, while "Fertile Soil Intelligent Translation Studio" strove to integrate talent from different fields for entrepreneurship and competitive endeavors.

Both faculty and industry professionals serving as judges provided specific feedback and words of encouragement to the students. Following the event, Gemini Data invited four students to join the company as interns. This serves as a testament not only to the students' individual capabilities but also to the high educational quality of the iLink Project at the FJCU College of Foreign Languages and Literatures.
The "Translation in Practice, Data Analysis, and Media Marketing" showcase highlighted the learning achievements of students across various fields, including film and television, journalism, marketing, religion, culture, business management, and data science. This cross-college and cross-class event is more than just a platform for self-demonstration; it provides an opportunity for students from different departments to learn from one another. By exchanging innovative ideas, students gain valuable experiences that will serve as nourishment for their future career development. Through this process, students have learned to navigate the disciplinary differences within a "multiverse" of complementary fields, ensuring they will continue to excel in interdisciplinary learning and collaboration in the AI era.

Online Poster Exhibition – Now Open to Visitors
To extend the achievements of this showcase, the College of Foreign Languages and Literatures has organized an online poster exhibition (URL: https://reurl.cc/6v8Xmr). Students who participated in the physical showcase were invited to provide materials, which were then designed into posters by the College and displayed on the project website. Simultaneously, a "Popularity Vote" was held for the online exhibition. This exhibition is permanently open—we welcome everyone to visit the project website and appreciate these outstanding works!
